WALLACE L. BAZLER, 85, of Elberon, LONG BRANCH, formerly of Arlington Heights, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, at home. He was superintendent for Smith Corona Merchant, Kleinschmidt teletypewriter division, North Brook, Ill., for most of his career. He was a member of the Illinois First Aid Squad. His passions were woodworking, gardening and fishing. His handmade clocks, toys, lamps and other creations will live on with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and "hanging out" at his daughter's Pocono's retreat. He was an active participant in SCAN, men's aerobics and Kensington Court's Club. He will be remembered for his wit and wisdom, and particularly his dry sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, he lived most of his life in Illinois with his wife of 62 years, Julianna, before moving to Elberon in 2001 to live with his daughter, Judith Ann Bazler.

He was predeceased by Julianna in 1999; his parents, Ernest Phillip and Laura Brinkert Bazler; and two sisters, Pat and Evelyn. Surviving are two daughters, Judith Ann Bazler of Elberon and Bonita Marcoccia of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sisters, Darlene Holleran of Arizona and Beatrice Katusky; five grandchildren, Kirk Bazler Melnikoff, Dawn Marcoccia, Dana Smith and Jennifer and James Heaning; and five great-grandchildren, Finley Wolfe Melnikoff and Amber, Danny, Brandon and Edward Smith.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Damiano Funeral Home, corners of Third and Franklin avenues, Long Branch. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, Ill. Memorial donations are requested to the Salvation Army, 605 Asbury Ave., Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
