He was born in Festus, MO to the late John and Hattie Colin in November 1916. He was the father of Jennifer (John) Pasuit and Melissa (David) Tucci. He is also survived by granddaughters, Tara Tucci and Olivia (Patrick) Grenter; great-granddaughter, Avery Grenter, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred (Halter) Colin in 1980, all seven siblings, and loving companion, Norinne Ruehl in 2007. After graduation from Festus High School, Ray graduated from Central Methodist College (Fayette, MO) in 1940 with a degree in chemistry and physics. He hitchhiked to Gary, IN looking for work and was hired as a chemist with US Steel. Ray retired in 1978 as Manager of Production Chemistry and Testing for the corporation. He was a member of the Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church for nearly 60 years, serving as a deacon and making repairs in his church. He was also a member of the American Society of Testing Materials. Ray’s self-taught forte was repairing or building anything mechanical or electrical. Notable achievements were building a crystal radio in 1927 when he was 10, to listen to news about Lindberg’s Atlantic flight and building a color TV from scratch, over a period of nine months in 1960, on the dining room table. He also enjoyed photography (developing his film), travel, and classical music. There will be no visitation and interment in Crystal City, MO will be private. Ray’s memorial service will be held in Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church (900 Country Club Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15228) on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements handled by John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., Brentwood, PA 15227. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of PA, 100 West Station Square Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. – Greater PA Chapter, 1100 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
