Barbara Drew Simpson, 92, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, January 4, 2015 in Bainbridge. Born on August 28, 1922 to the late Russell L. & Annie Webb Drew, she grew up in Miami and graduated from Miami Edison High School around 1940. She and her late husband, Ronell Simpson met and then married at Stanton Memorial Baptist Church in Miami in 1943. They lived in Tampa and Jacksonville until they moved to Valdosta in 1973. Mrs. Simpson soon started working in the Lowndes County Tax Assessors office and did so until the mid 1980's. She was a faithful member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and her Christian Home Builders Sunday School class. She was also active in the Literary Guild, the Reader's Review, Wymodausis and the D.A.R.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Carole & George Floyd of Bainbridge; a daughter in law, Karen Simpson of St. Augustine, FL; three grandchildren, Scott (Stacey) Simpson of Orlando, FL, Jimbo (Jenny) Floyd of Gainesville, GA and Elizabeth (Taylor) Hunt of Dallas, TX; her sister, Helen Mitchell of Lutz, FL; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Ron Simpson.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. Hale Bishop will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Carson McLane Funeral Home.
