Gaspare J. Ruffolo, 89, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born April 22, 1908, in Chicago. A 2 1/2-year resident, he was a retired artist. He lived and worked in Greenwood, MS for many years doing many portraits and caricatures. He was among a community of artists and very influential for his style and ability to encourage and appreciate other artists. He is survived by one sister, Marie McNerney of Denver; and two brothers, Dominic Ruffolo of Las Vegas and Carmen Ruffolo of Homewood, Ill. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

He studied painting at the Art Institute of Chicago with Wellington Reynolds and George Oberteuffer and exhibited at the Art Institute. He was a member of the Association of Chicago Painters and Sculptors, Chicago Galleries Association, and the All-Illinois Society of Fine Artists.
