O'FALLON, Ill. - Richard Allen Owens, U.S. Air Force Ret., 75, passed away on Tuesday (Jan. 6, 2015) at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville. Richard was born July 21, 1939, in Salamanca, N.Y. He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post No. 805 in O'Fallon, American Legion Fisher Post No. 139 in O'Fallon and was a generous supporter of many non-profits. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and in his younger years he loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Dorothy Owens, nee Rockwell; brother-in-law, Lotha Trapp; and mother- and father-in-law, Heinrich and Louise Trapp. Richard is survived by his wife, Melitta Owens, nee Trapp, of O'Fallon, whom he married Jan. 31, 1961, at Hahn Air Force Base, Germany; a daughter, Nattalie (Chad) Rusten of Minnetonka, Minn.; siblings, Carol Hasanove of Ocala, Fla., John (Pat) Owens of Marion, S.C., Duane (Karen) Owens of Kill Buck, N.Y., Thomas Owens of Little Valley, N.Y., and James Owens of Kill Buck, N.Y.; grandchildren, Ava Rusten and Quinn Rusten; brother-in-law, Hartmut (Inge) Trapp of Germany; nieces, Claudia and Heike; and grandniece, Julia.
