Henry Clay Fisher was the 9th child of 13 born to John B Fisher (1808 - 1861) and Nancy D Webb (1809 - 1899).
According to page 297 of the "History of Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois", John B Fisher and Nancy D Webb and their first five children moved from Kentucky to Illinois in the spring of 1839. The Fisher family began farming on land in Loami Township and expanded the family by 8 more children. Sadly, their first born, Nathaniel died in 1847, when Henry was less than one years old.

Henry's slightly older sister, Lucinda, remained on her mother's farm, helping her care for her younger siblings (including Henry Clay Fisher) until Lucinda's marriage to James Polk Campbell in 1875.
Henry Clay Fisher continued to live on his late father's farm until March 14, 1877, when he married Mary Alice Reeder in Chatham, Sangamon County, Illinois. She was the 8th of eleven children born to John and Mary (Harter) Reeder. According to Prairie Farmer's Reliable Directory of Farmers and Breeders (1917) "Moultrie County Automobiles - by Owner", Henry Clay Fisher is listed as "Fisher, H. C." and drove a (Ford - 2).
Henry Clay Fisher spent his childhood, adolescence and adulthood farming the fertile lands of Illinois. A well-respected member of the community, Clerk of the School Board, and Christian Church. On Jan 19, 1919, at the age of 72, Henry Clay Fisher died in Sullivan, Moultrie County, Illinois.
