Bernard R. "Barney" Roth, 89, of Fostoria, passed away at 2:29 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Norwalk, to Frank C. and Rose I. (Hosman) Roth. He married Mary Kathleen "Kate" Williams April 26, 1949, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and she died Sept. 23, 2002. Surviving are three sons, James "Mike" Roth of Fostoria, David C. (Tammy) Roth of Richmond, Virginia, and Steven A. Roth of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marcella A. "Sally" (Jerald) Van Buskirk of Bascom. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Gwiner; a sister, Garnita Babb; a brother, Donald Roth; two great-grandchildren; and his parents. Barney retired in 1987 as a set-up man at Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria, and had been the owner of the former Town Tavern in Bascom. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of New Riegel American Legion Post 354, New Riegel Moose Lodge 872, Fostoria Eagles and DADs of the VFW. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. His Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Cemetery, with New Riegel American Legion providing military honors.
