Census records and other records do not show a John Wells with a birth of 1838 only his death certificate which was likely falsified to show he lived to be 100. The local newspaper also printed the incorrect age and inaccuracies about his war service and battles. John Wells' tombstone was not carved to indicate the incorrect dates, it was never completed at all. While his father was glorified for attaining the oldest age of 100(he was 93), six others were older, Augustus Lessig the oldest at over 97. But they never were recognized for that distinction.
