Paul L Price, 77, of Mansfield, died Saturday evening, January 10, 2015, in OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. The motto "A friend in need, is a friend indeed" is how Paul Price lived his life.

He was born December 10, 1937, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Mary Elizabeth (Lee) and Gerald Frederick Price. Paul graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1956 and worked numerous jobs before becoming a Mansfield City Auxiliary Police Officer in 1963. He became a full-time patrolman with the Mansfield City Police Department in 1966, was awarded Officer of the Year in 1994, and retired with over 30 years of service. Paul also worked as a security guard for Mansfield Raceway on Friday and Saturday nights for several years. His passion was protecting others and he watched over the younger children in the park near his home. Paul also directed traffic for Lumbermen's Mutual Insurance Company.

Throughout the years, Paul was awarded several honors including: a Special Commendation Award for keeping theft and vandalism away from the Holiday Inn construction; Outstanding Service to the cause of Cancer Control; and completed Sex Offender education courses at Case Western Reserve University. He formerly served as President of the Ohio Union of Patrolmen Association; was a former President and member of the Mansfield Patrolmen's Association; and served on the Executive Board of International Union of Police Associations for many years.

An avid genealogist, Paul served as President of the Richland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. He was also a member of the Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society. In his spare time, he enjoyed oil and charcoal painting and taking photographs. He loved old cars and especially enjoyed his '51 Mercury sedan.

Paul was a devoted family man who would do anything for anyone and was always there when needed. He would drop whatever he was doing to help out someone else. He would give the shirt off his back to someone who needed it. An amazing man, his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra (Hostetter) Price; children, Lisa L. Larck and Michael L. (Lisa F.) Price; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by two brothers, Dannie (Caryl) Price and Chester Price; two sisters, Esther Adkins and Barb (Dan) Compton; a sister-in-law, Sarah (Jake) Hriesik; a brother-in-law, Roy (Becky)Hostetter; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Brother Roy Hostetter will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
