Prior to his enlisting, he had been a Motor Mechanic.
He joined the Royal Naval Air Squadron as a "Boy Mechanic" on 24 January 1918, at Tregantle.
On reaching 18, he transferred to the RAF, and served at Eastchurch and Baldonnell.
The cause of his death is not yet known.
