Obituary for Gerald Albain

Gerald Albain was born in Summerfield, Michigan on February 21, 1946. He was one of twelve children born from the union of the late Clifford Danial and Selma Louise (Liebke) Albain. Jerry graduated in the class of 1965 from Summerfield High School. He was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War.

He married the love of his life the former Sandra Ellison on October 11, 1969 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Temperance and from this union would come the birth of five children. Jerry supported his family through employment with Monroe Public Schools in the maintenance department for over twenty years until taking retirement in 2002.

Jerry loved the time he spent with his family and friends; he lived for the joy that came with being a father and grandfather. He was very personable and kind, and hardly met a stranger. When Jerry was able, he spent much time pursuing carpentry and tinkering on cars. When given the chance he spent it outside, he loved flowers. He was not afraid to admit that his favorite color was pink.

Gerald “Jerry, Joe” Albain, age 68 of Monroe passed peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015 at home. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by three sisters: Bonnie Albain, Patricia Wagonfeald, and Yvonne Riley; and two brothers: Ronald and Lowell Albain.

To cherish his memory he leaves five children: Ruth (Mark) Neal of Tennessee, Joseph Albain of Monroe, Cole Albain of Erie, Dietrich and Shay Albain of Monroe; sisters: Donna Ebersole of Erie, Faye (Roy) Knaggs of Whiteford, Diane (Jim) Perry of Petersburg, Constance “Cookie” (Jim) Corbett of Osseo, and Terry (Richard) Jelinek of Toledo; brother: Larry Albain of Florida; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Friday, January 16, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 10:00am, Saturday, January 17, 2015 also at Merkle’s with Deacon Kenneth Trabbic officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park for burial where military honors will be held under the auspices of Erie VFW Post 3925.
