Esther M. Botz Prom, 92 Sauk Rapids, formerly of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Good Shepherd Memory Cottages in Sauk Rapids.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, January 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids, with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating.
Esther Marie Laing was born November 6, 1922, in Freeport to George and Agnes (Frevel) Laing. She grew up in Freeport and graduated from Melrose High School in 1940. She married Cyril J. Botz June 23, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. They lived in Freeport, Willmar and then Sauk Centre from 1954 to 1988.
They moved to Sauk Rapids in 1988. Cyril died June 30, 1992. After Cyril’s death, Esther continued to live in Sauk Rapids. She moved to Shepherd Oaks Apartments in Sauk Rapids in 1999. Esther married Ray Prom December 13, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids. They continued to live at Shepherd Oaks Apartments. Esther moved to the Good Shepherd Memory Cottages in 2014.
Esther was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids, a former member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, St. Monica’s Society, Sauk Rapids Senior Citizens, St. Peter’s Mission Group, the Sauk Rapids VFW Auxiliary #6992 and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cyril Botz in June, 1992; son, David Botz in December, 1962; son-in-law, Steve Emblom in December, 2012; her parents, George and Agnes (Frevel) Laing; brothers, Elmo and Richard (Dick) Laing; and sisters, Rosetta “Rosie” Prince and Laverne “Vernie” Brunner.
