Machinist, tool and die maker, & General Manager with Briggs-Shaffner Co in Salem, where machinery was built for factory production of cigarettes. He later worked with Southern Steel Stamping, the Works Progress Administration during the Depression, and for National Carbon Co, which had a defense contract during WWII. He had travelled to Brooklyn for a few years in the early 1900s and worked as a machinist there, but once he arrived in Winston-Salem in 1910 or 1911, he never left.
