Yoshiko was the daughter of Tomokichi Abe and Ine Sato. Born in Gilroy, California, she and her family were relocated to a Japanese internment camp in Wyoming at the beginning of World War II.

Upon returning to California she met Willie Gonzales, who she would later marry. Together they had five children: Andrew, Bill, Belinda, Alyce and Joyce.

Yoshiko was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; one son, Andrew; two brothers, Iwao and Tom Abe; and a sister, Mrs. Mutsuko Shomura.

She was survived by four children; as well as a sister, Mary Furuike; and a brother, George Abe.
