Obituary

Lucy M. Kosier, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Kosier, was born February 2, 1859, at Richland, Kans., and departed this life January 21, 1940, in La Cygne at the age of eighty years, eleven months and nineteen days.
She was united in marriage to James W. Vail February 24, 1875, in the log cabin where she was born. Mr. Vail preceded her in death January 5, 1906, thirty-four years ago. To their union were born sixteen children. Fifteen of these children lived to be grown, one died and infant. Isaac departed this life July 10, 1905, and Clarence died January 7, 1921. The thirteen children now living are: Ella James, Carbondale; William Vail, Tecumseh; Viola Vanordstrand, Overbrook; Emma Nichols, Rocky Ford, Colo.; Mattie McCune, Amsterdam, Mo.; Effie Blake and Grace Shippe, Hooker, Okla.; Elmer Vail, Sheridan, Wyo.; Samuel Vail, George Vail, James Vail, La Cygne; John Vail, Buckley, Wash.; and Raymond Vail, Boicourt. She also leaves two sister to mourn her departure, Mrs. Flora Stevenson, Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Carrie Kropff, Jame, Mo., and thirty-nine grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Mother Vail united with the Methodist church when young and lived for her Redeemer until she was called to her reward.
In Memory of our Mother.
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is still,
A place is vacant in our homes
Which never can be filled.
She was a precious mother, so kind,
so tender, so true,
She had a smile of welcome for all of those she knew;
She carried her burdens of sorrow
deep in her heart of love,
She was a real true soldier, fighting
for the home above.
Tho she was left a widow thirty-four
years ago,
By God's help and her children's
she fought against every foe;
Her heart was fixed as the Psalmist's,
on Him who died for all,
Therefore in all her trouble, she
on the Lord did call.
And mother, we will miss you as the
days and years go by,
But we expect some day to meet you
in that beautiful home on high.
So, as the flowers bloom in the spring-
time and the dews on your
grave gently fall,
We expect to meet you in Glory,
those mansions prepared for
all.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. Odneal of Pleasanton. Burial was in Sharon cemetery east of Drexel, Mo.

Card of Thanks.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to our kind friends and neighbors for their help and sympathy in the recent illness and death of our dear mother and sister, Mrs. Lucy M. Vail
