CLEVELAND >> Donald 'Don' C. Phelps, 80, passed away Jan. 16, 2015, at the St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse, N.Y. He was born Oct. 2, 1934, a son of Pliny Monroe and Dorothy Ann Sharp Phelps in Constantia, N.Y. Don was a 1952 graduate from the Paul V. Moore High School, Central Square, N.Y. He served our country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955.
On May 20, 1968 in Halstead, Pa., Don was united in marriage to the former Linda Leonard. He was employed for 39 years at Oneida Limited as receiving clerk and retired in 1996. Donald was a member of American Legion Post No. 858, Cleveland, N.Y., was an avid golfer, enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, softball, and watching boxing matches, he was a undefeated boxer in the Navy.
Surviving Don besides his wife Linda are, two daughters, Donnetta and David Whitney, Bernhards Bay, N.Y., Garolyn and Ronald Seymour, Cleveland, N.Y.; one son, Joe Phelps and Stefani Slayton, Fayetteville, N.Y.; a son-in-law, Pat Malone, Cleveland, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Monet.
He is predeceased by his daughter Kiely Jo Phelps-Malone; and a brother, Ronald Phelps. Also survived by children from a previous marriage, Sandi, Colleen, and Steven Bernier, and predeceased by Karen and Kelly Bernier.
Donald's family would like to express a "special thank you" to Dr. Omer Sagcan and the staff on floor 1-5, St. Joseph's Hospital, for all the kindnesses shown to Don and his family.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, at the Cleveland United Methodist Church, Cleveland, N.Y., under the direction of the Watson Funeral Home, 631 S. Main St., Central Square, N.Y. Calling hours will be held 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. prior to the funeral at the church
