Mr. Clarence Barber Adkins, 82 of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Charleston, WV on December 23, 1932 to the late Phillip William and Violet Marie Cooper Adkins. Mr. Adkins bravely served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 32 years of service, where he commuted four hours each day. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by “Susie” his dog; a sister, Ruth Carol Craigo and a brother, Earl James Adkins. Mr. Adkins is survived by two sisters, Shirley Puckett and Phyllis Marie Mays; nieces, nephews and their spouses, Mike Golding, Danny and Angela Golding, Bobby and Theresa Miller, Greg and Debbie Smith, Steve and Annette Golding, Robin and Mike Clark and Patty Crabtree, Dan and Kim Edwards, Jeff and Terri Shaffer; and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery in WV on Saturday, January 24, 2015. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday evening, January 22, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
