Mack H. Rowe Sr., 60, chairman of the board of Capitol International Airways, passed away April 5, 1980 at Parkview Hospital of cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, 1980 at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home with the Rev. James D. Hopkins, officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Collett and the employees of Capitol International Airways. Active pallbearers include Floyd Whitlow, of Jacksonville, Fla., Al Pitman, Hank Benagh, General King Matthews, General Earl Pate, Billy Benz, H. Spurgeon Van Deren Jr. and Hutch Carlock. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Rowe, a native of Nashville, graduated from Isaac Litton High School and attended Tennessee Tech.
An early aviation enthusiast who began flying at 15, Rowe served as a fighter pilot with the Army Air Corps in North Africa during World War II, attaining the rank of Captain by 1945.
In 1946 he returned to Nashville and went to work for the then fledgling Capitol Airways. He named vice president of the company in 1952 and chairman of the board last year.
Rowe, of 1122 Greenland Ave., was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marion Gleaves Rowe; his mother, Mrs. Lola Rowe; four sons, Gene H. "Chip" Rowe, James Bradley Rowe, Mack H. Rowe Jr. and Stephen Barton Rowe; a daughter, Mrs. Charles K. Bridges and three grandchildren all of Nashville.
