Albert Alfred Gardner was born on August 28, 1863 in Mendon, Cache, Utah Territory to James and Hannah Gubbins Gardner. He was the eighth of eleven children born to them - six girls and five boys. The first four children were born in England. His parents were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January 1846. They were married on December 25, 1846 in Bisley, Gloucestershire, England. They wanted so badly to go to America and then to Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Territory. They came to America on the ship “Thornton” which sailed from Liverpool. It took them six weeks to get to St. Louis. They traveled by train to Iowa City, Iowa. His family came to the Utah Territory with the James G. Willie Handcart Company in 1856.
The family stayed in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Territory until about 1859. They moved to Mendon, Cache, Utah Territory.
Albert married Caroline Lawrence on May 5, 1887 in Mendon, Cache, Utah Territory. Caroline was born on March 12, 1868 in Chilvers Coton, Warwickshire, England to George and Hannah Merinda Fowlks Lawrence. She was the second of four children, two girls and two boys. Her family came to America and the Utah Territory in 1873. Caroline was five years old. Her father did not leave England.
Albert and Caroline had five children, four girls and one boy, all born in Teton, Fremont, Idaho. Susannah May was born on December 19, 1888; Elsie Hepsibah was born on July 10, 1891; Iva Elizabeth was born on July 30, 1894; Cora Louise was born on December 5, 1899; and Lawrence A. was born on January 5, 1903.
Albert was a farmer. He had heart disease. He was in Arco, Idaho when he died of pneumonia on February 19, 1921 at the age of 57. He was buried on February 23, 1921 in Teton, Fremont, Idaho.
