Martin “Marty” William Schoen Sr., age 89, of Sheboygan, was called home to be with his Lord surrounded by his family on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. He was born in Sheboygan on February 26, 1925, the son of the late Fredrick and Minnie Falk Schoen.

He attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1943. Martin served his country in the U.S. Navy. On September 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marian Anna Klueger at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2006. Martin was employed at Van Der Vaart Construction for thirty-four years, retiring in 1987.

Martin was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 55 year LIUNA Member Local 330, AA Member for 53 years, a member of the Sheboygan Falls Conservation Club and the Milwaukee Beagle Club. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed raising and training beagles. Martin also enjoyed spending time at his special place up north with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children; Linda L. Schoen, of Sheboygan Falls, Martin W. (Mary) Schoen Jr., of Sheboygan, Maryann (Peter) Hahn, of Rural Elkhart Lake, Phillip F. Schoen, of Sheboygan, Cheryl M.(John) Verhelst, of Sheboygan, Kathleen D. (Mark) Riemer, of Sheboygan, 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. Martin is further survived by a special cousin, Shirley Miedl, other relatives and friends. Preceded by his parents, wife, brothers, Milton and Victor Schoen, his sister, Emily Ver Straate, an infant brother and sister, Walter and Helena and an infant great-grandson, Drake Wolfert.

A funeral service for Martin will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 3027 Wilgus Ave., Sheboygan with Rev. Bryan Osladil officiating. Family and friends may call at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan on Thursday evening, January 8th, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and also at church on Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to Martin. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Martin’s name.
