Melvin Lyman Needham, 92, of Salina and Abilene, died January 13, 2015 in McPherson, Kansas. He was born August 8, 1922 in Abilene, the son of Fay C. and Nellie (Clark) Needham. Melvin was the dearest father of Gail (Randy) Clubb and Terry Lee Needham.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Nellie, Herb, Bob, and Joyce.

Melvin was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces and Air Force during WWII, serving from 1942-1945. Before receiving his honorable discharge, he served in the 342nd Bombardment Squadron and the 15th Air Force.

He worked at Binks Manufacturing Co. In retirement, he participated in Kansas Honor Flights for WWII veterans. He retired in his beloved hometown of Abilene, Kansas where his passion was model railroading and the love of the Rock Island Railroad, where his father had worked as a freight clerk. His other passion was working on the Needham family genealogy.

Melvin was a kind gentleman and will be missed by family and friends.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Abilene Cemetery, Abilene. Ryan Mortuary is handling arrangements.
