Dorothy Mae Allen was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Remer, the daughter of Preston and Alice (Taylor) Maness, and grew up and attended school in Remer and Grand Rapids. She moved to Grand Rapids in 1941. She married John Allen on Sept. 4, 1956, in Coleraine. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle Auxiliary in Grand Rapids.
She is survived by a daughter, Alice Blade, Grand Rapids; two sons, John Allen and Preston Allen, both of Grand Rapids; a stepson, Dennis Allen, Eveleth; two sisters, Ruth Gildersleve and Delores Maness, both of Grand Rapids; a brother, Clarence "Bud" Maness, Babbitt; and 13 grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, John, in 1994, her parents, a granddaughter, Heidi Miller, in 1997, and a brother, Harold Maness, in 1995.
Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at Grace Bible Chapel, Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Charles Nelson officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rowe Funeral Home.
Burial: Itasca-Calvary Cemetery.
