After his military service, Perry began working for the former Lanier Funeral Home in Jackson, TN, and later began a 32 year career with Life of Georgia Insurance Company in Jackson, TN. During his time with Life of Georgia, he earned a National Quality Award given by the National Association of Life Underwriters for excellence of sales and service. During his career, he was an Agent and Sales Manager. After he retired from Life of Georgia, he worked part-time for both Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home and the former Jackson National Bank.
Church work was very important to Perry, and he was very active in his church, Westover Baptist Church. In 1929, he was the first candidate for baptism in the newly established Westover Baptist Church. He later served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. After moving in 1980 from the Westover Community, he and his wife joined First Baptist Church of Jackson, TN, where they were also active members. In 2005, he received The Deacon Emeritus Award for 55 years of service. Perry led his home in a Christian way, and he conducted himself accordingly in the community. Many young people were positively affected by his example, and have commented on how he influenced their life.
Perry enjoyed activities outside the home including membership in the Westover Ruritan Club, working in the Westover Volunteer Fire Department and lots of gardening to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for his family. He was known for assisting family and friends in time of need or sickness. It was not unusual for Perry to stop by and take popsicles to a sick child in the family or to challenge a child to eat peanuts faster than he could shell them; he always won! The Moss household had lots of routine things that were done because Perry was very meticulous about things such as shining his shoes and washing their cars. You could see yourself in his shoes because he took pride in his appearance. His aunt referred to him as her "aristocratic nephew."
He was the wonderful father to Camille and John and a father figure to all of his extended family. He was blessed to have three granddaughters, Bethany, Megan and Ashley. When he passed away, he had one remaining sibling surviving, Catherine Moss Lasseter of Austin, TX. His siblings, Bertha, Lessie, Maggie, Eula, Beulah, Sid, George and Edward preceded him in death. His youngest sister, Catherine has since passed away in 2012.
One can truly say that this was a life well lived. He undoubtedly is with his Heavenly Father as this biography is being written. He is sorely missed by his family, but they are comforted knowing that they will be with him again one day.
