James Douglas Hutchinson James Douglas Hutchinson
(November 17, 1958 - January 17, 2015)

James Douglas Hutchinson left this world after a long illness on January 17. He was born on November 11, 1958 in Hahira, Georgia to James and Betty Hutchinson.

He leaves behind the love of his life, LeeAnn Hutchinson; and their two precious children Natalie Marie Hutchinson (Ethan Canaday) and Zachary James Hutchinson; as well as his parents; and three sisters Tammy Hutchinson, Gay Gorsage and Cindy Trefrey and their families, all of Jacksonville; and many extended family and friends. Doug was a quiet man who thought deeply. He didn’t always say much, but when he did, it was worth listening to. He was deeply devoted to his family. He loved nothing more than being with his wife and children, unless it was talking about them. His love story with his wife is precious. Their paths crossed several times over about a 12 year period, but they never actually met until 1990, when he saw her photo in a pharmacy. He proposed on their second date and continued to propose on every date until she said yes. He loved to make her smile. They were completely devoted to each other for 24 years. Doug loved traveling and photography and took many beautiful photographs of places he traveled to with his family. Doug enjoyed woodworking and leather crafting and made many beautiful items for his family. Doug loved doing things and going places with his children. For many years, he would take them to movies and lunch on Saturdays, making many wonderful memories with them. Just this past Christmas, he taught them how to make the best and largest chocolate chip cookies they ever made. He was very proud of teaching Natalie how to shoot any type of weapon and was very proud that she could outshoot most men.

Doug began working for Sears, Imeson shortly after high school and remained a loyal employee until they closed the catalog division in the early 90’s. Later he was one of the first employees hired for a new company, North Florida Sales, and quickly became a draught technician. He was a dedicated employee and took great satisfaction in doing his job well. He was employed with them until he became ill in July of 2014. Doug always laughed because he had so much beer paraphernalia collected, but had never drunk a drop of alcohol. He always said, and taught his children, that nothing is worth giving up control of your mind for. Doug was always willing to help someone in need. He opened his home to those in need and always welcomed and loved entertaining guests. When both of his in-laws where ill with Alzheimer’s he was always there to help, even in the middle of the night and always treated them with gentleness and respect. Doug had a strong sense of right and wrong and lived by a strict moral code. He never worried what someone else might think of him, because he was satisfied and certain of his decisions and actions. He tried to teach this to his children as well. Doug was 56 years old. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Friday January 23, at Nassau Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at graveside Saturday January 24, at 11am at Higginbotham-Little Cemetery.
