28 Dec 1937, p. 1, col. 7: “Frank Hackney Succumbs to Heart Attack. – Well Known Citizen of Community for 50 Years Dies Suddenly—Mr. Frank A. Hackney, aged 65, [faded] his home in Bridgeton last night at 11:30 p.m. of a sudden heart attack. Mr. Hackney had been a well known resident of the city for the past fifty years, moving here from Pleasantville, N.J. He was engaged in the concrete business. The deceased is survived by his widow, a daughter Mrs. Robert Gaskins, and two sons, Roland and John Smith; also relatives in Berkley, Va., and in New Jersey. Funeral arrangements will be made today.”

Hackney, 65-year-old resident of New Bern and Bridgeton for more than 40 years, will be held from the home in Bridgeton tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock b Rev. W.F. Elliott, pastor of Bridgeton Methodist church. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Hackney died Monday night of a heart attack. Active pallbearers will be C.J. McCarthy, L.C. Newman, Will Odum, Yens Hansen, and Carter Tisdale. Honorary pallbearers will be H.G. Tolson, B.M. Potter, F.T. Patterson, W.C. Chadwick, A.L. Bryan, and C.D. Lancaster.”

Hackney of Bridgeton and New Bern, hear attack victim who died suddenly last Monday night. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery followed funeral service at the home in Bridgeton, Rev. W.F. Elliott, pastor of the Bridgeton Methodist church, officiated. The deceased is survived by a widow, a daughter, two sons, a sister, a brother, and a number of nieces and nephews.”
