Born to Samuel (Sammy) Reynolds Jones and Sarah Elizabeth Darland Jones, early pioneers of the Willamette valley. She was the grand-daughter of SWR Jones with much of his family being buried at the Pioneer Cemetery (The Nook Cemetery) Brooks, Oregon, founded for his first son.Altha had 2 older sisters: Bertha Sarah (Hoover) and Jennie Myrtle (Collard) and 4 younger siblings which included her only brother: Sylva Winnifred (Brixey), Susan Edna (Ramp), Samuel Paul, and Areta V. Harper.Altha at 29, married Ernest Carter Naftzger (34 years of age) on November 21, 1909. The maid of honor at their wedding in Gervais, Oregon was Elizabeth Karn Batt, Ernest's neice. She lies in this cemetery.Children: Sarah Elizabeth (1910) Will; Catherine Bertha (1911) Short; Edward Paul (1912); Charles Edward (1914); James Leonard (1915); Altha Alzadie (1916); Areta May (1919) Stage Kocher and Calvin Aphoes (1925).GRANDCHILDREN: SARAH: Robert Ernest (1938-2004) and Elaine Leona (1941) CATHERINE SHORT: Patricia Catherine (1940) and Sally Altha (1948) EDWARD: Sandra Jean (1940), Ernest Calvin (1943); Wilma Diane (1945), Helen Eileen (1948), Charles Edward (1953). She was a fantastic mother and grandmother. Her first child was born when Altha was 30 and the last was born when she was 45. She was a charter member and past matron of the Gervais Chapter 118, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Past Matrons Club of Beulah Chapter No. 75, OES, at Wilder. She was a past state president of the United Spanish American War Veterans Auxiliary, a member of the General MacArthur Auxiliary of Nampa, Gold Star Mothers Club of Homedale, Fargo Ladies Club and Iris Temple, No. 40, Daughters of the Nile, Boise, and a devoted member of the Golden Gate Baptist Church at Wilder. Mr. Naftzger preceded her in death in 1961 and a son, Lt. Commander James L. Naftzger in 1953. Surviving are three sons, Edward, Kamiah, Charles, Wilder, Calvin, Roise; four daughters, Mrs. Sarah Will, Aurora, Ore., Mrs. Catherine Short, Boise, Mrs. Areta Kocher, Canby, Ore., Miss Zadie Naftzger, Wilder; four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Collard and Mrs. Sylvia Brixey, both of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Edna Ramp, and Mrs. Rita Harper, both of Brooks, Ore.; a nephew, Ernest Naftzger, Salem, Ore., whom she raised as a son; 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.MOTHER'S MOTHER.
