Dean Bernell Allgood
Dean Bernell Allgood, 94, of Rigby, passed away Jan. 21, 2015 at The Gables in Ammon surrounded by his family.

Dad was born October 10, 1920 in Hibbard, Idaho, to Arthur and Geneva Jensen Allgood. He was the oldest child, followed by three sisters, Bernice, Phyllis and Marjorie. When Dad was 8 years old his parents divorced and his Grandma Jensen moved in to help care for Dad and his sisters while his mother worked. Dad loved his grandma and spoke tenderly of her over the years.

Dad attended Rexburg schools and Ricks College where he excelled in sports. He ran track, played basketball and football and boxed. He especially loved boxing and football, playing quarterback at Ricks College on a full ride football scholarship. When Dad was 18 his mother married Paul Neeley. Grandpa Paul was a welcome presence in Dad's life.

Dad married his sweetheart, Glenda Fisher, Easter Sunday 1942 at her family home in Annis, ID. They became eternal companions November 28, 1987 in the Idaho Falls Temple and enjoyed 58 years together before Mom passed away in 1999.

Dad enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1942 and served in the South Pacific Theater with the First Marine Division. He was wounded in one of the bloodiest battles of WWII at Bloody Nose Ridge on Peleliu Island. He was later awarded a Purple Heart. Dad is the epitome of "Once a Marine Always a Marine."

After the war Dad came home to his wife and little daughter, Deana Kaye. He managed the Conoco station in Rigby and over the years worked as Rigby Chief of Police, and as a Security Guard for GE. He retired in 1983 after 20 years with Utah Power and Light.

He then had the opportunity to renew his lifelong love of horses, training and raising thoroughbreds. Mom shared Dad's passion traveling with him throughout Montana and Idaho as they raced their horses for several years. As a family we all loved watching Dad's horses run.

Dad was a very hard worker from a very young age, sometimes working two to three jobs at a time to make ends meet. He believed in staying out of debt, sometimes paying his bills before they came.

Dad was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a charter member of The Rigby Lions Club where he served as President and enjoyed serving in the community.

Dad lived in Rigby in the house he and Mom built and raised their family of four girls until August 2014 when he moved to The Gables.

The family thanks those at The Gables and Hearts of Hospice who cared lovingly for Dad. A special thank you to Kerry, Cindy and Stacey.

Dad is survived by his sister, Margie Thompson, of Rexburg; sisters-in-law, Wilma DeLand and DeOnne Fisher, of Salt Lake City, Martha Brown, of St Anthony, Marlene Cooper, of Idaho Falls; several nieces and nephews; his four daughters and their husbands: Deana and Doyle Heyrend, of Idaho Falls, Colleen and DuWayne Skaar, of Lewisville, Michelle and Rick Barber, of Salt Lake City, ShaRee and Val Skinner of Nampa; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Glenda Fisher Allgood; sisters, Bernice Allgood and Phyllis Neff; grandsons, Joshua Dean Skinner and Torry Michael Seamons; great-grandchildren, Teagen K. and Brycen Monty Blackburn, and Lenix Jessica Johnson.

We love and miss you Dad. Your sense of humor and wit blessed and enriched our lives. You will always be our hero.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday January 27th the Rigby Stake Center The family will receive friends Monday evening January 26th 7:00-8:30 PM at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and Tuesday January 27th 9:30-10:45 prior to services at the church. Burial will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery where military rites will be performed.
