Ruthanna Cox Oppy, 95, of Lafayette, IN and formerly of New Richmond, IN, passed away peacefully at Bickford Cottage of Lafayette, IN on Saturday, January 24, 2015, where she had been a resident since 2005.
The family would like to extend profound thanks to the staff at Guardian Angel Hospice and Bickford Cottage.
She was born December 31, 1919, in Westfield, IN, to the late Orville and Elfleda Emery Cox. She graduated from New Richmond High School and then Indiana Business College. She married Garland Oppy on August 15, 1941 in Lafayette. He preceded her in death, May 17, 2001.
Ruthanna was retired from the Linden State Bank, where she was manager of the New Richmond Bank. Garland and Ruthanna previously owned and operated a family farm located about 2 miles west of New Richmond.
Surviving are 2 brothers: Howard Cox (wife, Marietta) of Ft. Myers, FL and Paul Cox of Crawfordsville, IN and 2 sisters Betty Allen (husband, Gordon) Indianapolis, IN, Margaret Gilmour of Mercer, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Cox and her sister, Alice Heavilon.
Also surviving are a son, John Oppy of Lafayette, IN and a daughter, Sue Hammer (husband, Jim) of Lafayette, IN.
Also surviving are 2 grandchildren: Brett Swann (husband, Mike) of Lafayette, IN, and Darrell Hammer (wife, Tricia) of Noblesville, IN; and 2 great-grandchildren.
