Louis E. Fairchild, 81, Trade Publisher, Dies

PORT JEFFERSON, N. Y., July 25. - Louis E. Fairchild, 81, chairman of the board of Fairchild Publications, publishers of trade newspapers, directories and business books, died early today at the John T. Malther Memorial Hospital.
With his late brother, Edmund W. Fairchild, who founded the business, he shared an equally prominent part in building Fairchild Publications, which include Women's Wear Daily, Daily News Record, Retailing Daily, Footwear News, Men's Wear Magazine and many trade directories.
His wife, the former Jessie Boyd, died in 1922. Survivors include a son, Edgar W. B. Fairchild, vice president and treasurer of Fairchild Publications, and a daughter, Mrs. Philip Rauch, of Huntington, N. Y.

NEW YORK, July 25 (CTS). - Louis E. Fairchild, 81, board chairman of Fairchild Publications, died Tuesday at John T. Malther Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson, L. I. Fairchild played an important role in helping his late brother, Edmund, build up the big publication chain, which includes Women's Wear, the Daily News Record, Retailing Daily, Footwear News, Men's Wear, and many trade directories.
