Ester Lois Johnson passed away at her home in Paonia, Colorado, Friday January 23, 2015.

Ester was born in that same home on June 22, 1922 to John Wellander Beezley and Anna Myrtle Aronson Beezley. She had an older brother, Ward Allen Beezley.

Ester was married in the rose garden of that home on June 8, 1941, to Thorel Tollef “Skip” Johnson. Skip volunteered during World War II and Ester accompanied him while he trained to be a pilot.

When Skip went to China as a B24 Pilot, Ester returned to Paonia until the end of the war. Skip became a Colorado Sate Patrolman and they lived in many locations around Colorado including Golden and Meeker, before the Korean War, when Skip was recalled to serve in the Air Force. Once again Ester returned to Paonia to wait. Skip remained in the Air Force and they traveled many places around the world until retiring back in Paonia. The marriage ended in divorce.

Ester cared for her mother for many years, while she enjoyed working in her gardens. Ester loved her family and was very active for many years in the United Methodist Church of Paonia, singing in the choir and providing flower arrangements. Ester delivered meals to those who were unable to attend the meals at Paonia Senior Center for more than 20 years. She also enjoyed her involvement in the Pitkin Mesa Club and the Garden Club.

Ester is survived by her daughter, Connie Johnson, of Paonia, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to HopeWest Hospice P. O. Box 24 Delta, Co 81416 or the United Methodist Church of Paonia P.O. Box 157, Paonia, CO 81428.

A celebration of life will be scheduled in June as Ester was not a fan of winter anymore.
