Archibald THOMSON, born January 24, 1755 [1754], Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, emigrated from Greenock middle of July 1771 to America with 11 siblings and his parents arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, September 1771, then to Philadelphia, and later settling in Chambersburg, Franklin Township, occupying both sides of the Conecocheage Creek, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, which later became the town of Scotland. Archibald THOMSON died December 1801, Fairview Village, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, buried Norriton Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Fairview Village, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

Archibald THOMSON, 1755-1801, was son of Alexander C. THOMSON, 1722-1800, formerly of Corker Hill, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and of his wife, Elizabeth EDMUNDSTONE, 1728-1815, both buried Old Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rocky Spring, Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Archibald's father, Alexander THOMSON, 1722-1800, was ardently attached and sympathized with the Old Cameronian Covenanters of Scotland--his house was a center of worship for a wide area in Franklin Township--as he was an ardent supporter of the Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Archibald THOMSON, 1755-1801, is believed to have been grandson of Robert THOMSON, of Corker Hill, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and a great grandson of Scottish Covenenter Gabriel THOMSON, 1660-1684, formerly of Eaglesham Parish, Corker Hill, Renfrewshire, Scotland, who fought in the Battle of Bothwell Bridge on June 12, 1679, at age 19, was captured at Dungavel in the summer of 1684, held at and escaped from Toulbuirth Cannongate in August 1684, and was executed at Edinburgh, Scotland in November 1684.

Archibald THOMSON, 1755-1801, served in the American army under General John LACEY and at the skirmish of the Battle of Crooked Billet, a battle in the Philadelphia Campaign of the American Revolutionary War fought on May 1, 1778, near the Crooked Billet Tavern, (present day Hatboro, Pennsylvania) where he was taken prisoner by the Brittish under Colonel ABERCROMBIE.
