Elaine A. Wilkens, 84, formerly of Kiel, died at Morningside Health Center, Sheboygan on Monday, January 26, 2015. Elaine was born on May 12, 1930 in Kiel, daughter of the late Otto & Edna (Balz) Reichwaldt. She was a 1948 graduate of Kiel High School. On October 23, 1948 she married Thomas Wilkens at St. Peter UCC, Kiel. Tom preceded her in death on September 25, 1995. Elaine was a life time member of St. Peter UCC where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and sang in the church choir. She was also instrumental in forming the Kiel Historical Society. Elaine worked as a nurses aid at Willowdale Nursing Home for 8 years, fulfilling her life long dream. Survivors include her son, Gary (Diane), two grandchildren; Nicole (Nels) Higgins and their children, Elliott & Emily, Jason (Jolene) Wilkens and their children, Autumn, Carson, Kinley and Bennet, two step grandchildren; Patrick (Debbie) Verhelst and their children, Gaven & Hailey and Peggy (Jim) Fischer and their children, Hannah & Gabrielle. She is further survived by her sister, Sharon Kryscio, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and numerous brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law. Private family services were held with burial at the Kiel City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Morningside Health Center, Sharon Richardson Hospice and all her friends and caregivers over the years, for all the care and compassion shown to her.
