Lydia had attended and was a member of Bemis Church of Christ all of her life. She had worked for the Bemis Cotton Mill for 45 years at her retirement.
She married Walter "Dennis" Perry and had many happy years of marriage until his passing in September of 1992. From this union, they were blessed to have one daughter, Madeline Kay Perry Whitt.
When Lydia's sister Norma died shortly after childbirth in 1944, Lydia and her parents took Norma's three children to raise. She played a huge role in rearing these children and helping to provide for them.
Lydia was known for her huge smile as she sat quietly. She was a faithful companion to Dennis and her daughter. After Dennis' passing, she left the Bemis Community and went to live near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Kay made sure that her mother was taken care of in every way.
At the time of Lydia's passing, she was survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Guy Whitt, her grandsons, Dennis Whitt and Wayne Whitt and wife, her great grandson, Wayden Whitt, her two sisters, Birdes Stewart and Eleanor Mullikin and her brother, Rufus Gowan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Norma Gowan Francis and Anna Gowan.
