James Monroe Threet was the son of Evan B. Threet and Elizabeth (Welch/Welsh) Threet. He married Flora Braden/Bradon/Braedon on Dec. 26, 1875 in Arkansas, probably Grant County.

The Threet family (originally Thweatt) originated from around the Anson County, NC area, on the border with South Carolina. Family history states that James' father, Evan Threet, along with several other families (including Poe), migrated to Fayette Co, AL around 1822 and then on to Saline County, AR, about 1852 and then many moved on to Grant County, AR later.
