Homer was a catcher and rightfielder for the Cleveland Indians. He made his major league debut on April 25, 1908. He was only given four at-bats through his final big league game on August 11, 1908. He still managed to steal a base and score two runs. In the field, he had ten fielding chances with no errors.

Homer also played football in the Ohio League, the forerunner of the NFL. Many thought Homer to be the best pro kicker of his time. His team won the league championship in 1906. He beat chief rival Akron in 1911 by 3-0 on his field goal. His team again won the league title in 1911. In 1912 he suffered a bad injury but his kick still helped his team beat rival Akron and again win the league championship. On October 5, 1913 his field goal beat Akron 16-14. Davidson later joined a new team that defeated Canton 26-0 in their first match, but his field goal was judged to be missed in a 7-6 loss (the ref was a resident of Canton). Homer was with the Akron team in 1914 and won another league title.
