Umnus, Donald H.

Donald H. Umnus, our gracious and merciful Lord called Don home, on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Don formerly resided at 1012 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc and for the last three years resided at Hannah House II at 3407 Wildwood Drive, Manitowoc. He passed at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

He was born on May 6, 1929 in Manitowoc, son of the late Herbert and Ruth (Medaus) Umnus. He was born again of water of the spirit through Holy Baptism in May of 1929. Don's parents also saw that he was taught the word of God according to Jesus command and on May 2, 1944 he publicly confessed his faith and made vows of faithfulness to his Lord on his confirmation. He was a 1948 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On July 19, 1954 he began his service with the United States Air Force serving until April 18, 1958. On June 14, 1958 Don was married to Arlene M. Vetting at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church at Newtonburg. Don retired in 1995 from Imperial Eastman in Manitowoc. He was a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church and Don served his church as a member of the church council, board of elders, board of education, usher, Bethany Lutheran choir, Lakeshore Lutheran Chorale, and was a delegate to Manitowoc Lutheran High School.

Survivors include his wife: Arlene Umnus, Manitowoc; Don and Arlene were blessed by the Lord with four children: Greg (Lori) Umnus, Manitowoc and their children: Kimberly Umnus and her fiancé: Tyler Rohde; Angela Umnus; Chris (Tania) Yindra and their children: Andrew and Matthew Yindra; Lee Umnus, Manitowoc and his fiancée: Jacki Janke and their children: Nicole (Justin) Jaeger and their daughter: Morgan Jaeger; Michael, Mitchell and Megan Janke; Kent (Karen) Umnus, Manitowoc and their children: Travis and Adam Bonk; Beth (Lee) Reinke, Brillion and their children: Ryan, Seth and Megan Reinke; one sister: Helen Shelffo, Denver, CO; special cousins: Bill (Bernice) Schramm; Alan (Shirley) Umnus; Dale (Gladys)Umnus, other relatives and friends survive. Don was preceded in death by his parents: Herbert and Ruth Umnus; one brother: John Umnus.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. The Revs. Robert Kujawski and Stephen Melso will officiate with cremation to follow the service and burial of his cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials donations in Don's name would be appreciated for Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
