Sacred to the memory of Sir ROBERT DALRYMPLE HORN ELPHINSTON Baronet b.27 Feb. 1766 - d. 11 Oct. 1848 aged 82 y 8 mths. He entered the Army in 1782 and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards. He succeeded to the estates of Horn and Logie-Elphinstone on the death of his brother JAMES in Apr. 1798. who also 1ies here. The title he represented through his mother MARY, only dau of Sir JAMES ELPHINSTONE Bart., was renewed to him.in 1827, the 5th baronet of Logie-Elphinstone. He was a most affectionate husband and father, a steady and zealous friend, liberal and kind to all who were dependent upon him. He devoted his long life to the improvement of this district and died in the humble but steadfast hope of eternal life through the merits of our Blessed Redeemer. Also of Dame GRAEME DALRYMPLE HORN ELPHINSTONE his wife, b. 10 May 1782-d.28 Jan. 1870, dau. of Col. DAVID HEPBURN 2nd son of JAMES CONGALTON HEPBURN of Congalton and Keith Marshall Midlothian
