Death of Major Abernethy Grover
Last night between 9 and 10 o'clock, Major Abernethy Grover departed this life at the advanced age of 76. Mr. Grover was born at Bethel, Maine, and educated at Bowdoin college. At some period prior to the war, he was one of a board of three advisory commissioners to the governor of Maine, the constitution of that state providing for such a board, acting as sort of a cabinet to advise the governor in matters of state. Later Mr. Grover entered the service in the civil war, and attained the rank of major of volunteers. He came to this section about twelve years ago and except four years that he served as register of the U.S. land office at Miles City, has devoted his time to the cultivation of a small farm at the outskirts of the city. He was the brother of the late Hon. Lafayette Grover, late U.S. senator from Oregon, and leaves a wife--who is a sister of Judge McBridge--and one minor child to mourn his loss. His brother has been telegraphed and will probably come here to attend the funeral.
