Janet Faison MATTHEWS - Janet Faison, 88, of Matthews, died peacefully on January 9, 2013, in the company of her beloved son.

She was born on January 28, 1924, in Charlotte, the daughter of Edgar Wright and Laurea Jones Wright. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Howard Faison III; daughter, Jennie Faison Latty; son, Edgar Wright Faison and sister Phyllis Wright Samson. She is survived by her son, John Howard Faison IV (Joan Robbins) five grandchildren, Michele Faison Bogan, Jessica Marie Faison, Elizabeth Latty Bridges, John Robbins Faison and Richard Allen Latty, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Gregory Herman, Leigh Bogan, John Lightfoot, Zachary Lightfoot, Trip Latty, Adeline Faison and Preston Latty; brother, Edgar A. Wright of Charlotte and sister, Rose Marie Twogood of El Centro, CA.

The final years of Janet's life were made much richer by the care and devotion of her personal assistant Millicent Garmon. Together they played with great-grandchildren, attended TOPS meetings, watched birds in the front window, shopped, and dined at all the best restaurants in the area. Janet's sleeping companion and love of her life following the death of her husband was her beautiful dog, Girl. Her best friends were her dear brother, special neighbors and TOPS members that she had known for more than 30 years.

Nothing was more important to Janet than her family. She was present for the births of all five grandchildren and was their greatest cheerleader throughout their lives. She was also devoted to her great-grandchildren, attending all their major events. Two-year-old Trip will miss their weekly play dates around which she planned all other activities.

The Faison family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail. A graveside service to celebrate Janet's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Union County Animal Shelter, 3340 Presson Rd., Monroe, NC, 28112.

Arrangements are in care of Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel. Online condolences may be left at www.heritagecares.net
