Mrs. Miriam Elizabeth Wescott.

Mrs. Wescott, daughter of Reuben Wood Leffingwell, and wife of Clarence M. Wescott, was born July 16, 1910. Of distinguished ancestry, she numbered among her forefathers Lieut. Thomas Leffingwell, who looms so large. In his early history of Connecticut as the friend of the Mohegan Sachem Incas, and the Hon. Benjamin Carpenter, some time colonel in the Revolutionary war and later governor of Vermont, while she was the lineal descendant of Elder Brewster, leader of the Mayflower Pilgrims.

In her own person, she was a worth daughter of her race, of dignified demeanor and calm mind, she united firmness of will with singular sweetness and generosity. She was a loveable woman, true to her family, faithful to her friends. In her later days she showed the Puritan soul in the dam courage which she made ready to embark on the dark river, unwilling that her loved ones should suffer one needless pang, not wanting them to fear where she had no fear. So, sustained by a Christian faith that could not doubt, she gave her pure soul into the safe keeping of her Father and her God.

She is survived by her husband, C. M. Wescott, a son, Fred Wescott, a granddaughter, Mrs. Hollis Wescott, three sisters, Mrs. Eastman of Bellville, Mrs. Randolph of Nigara Falls, and Mrs. Mila Rice of Adams, a brother, A. M. Leffingwell of Watertown and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at her late home on Chestnut Ridge, the Rev. Dr. G. P. Summerville officiating.
