Veteran Civil War, 1st Lieutenant. He first served in Company H, 35th PA Infantry Regiment; enlisted on 22 Apr 1861, transferred to western gun-boat service on 8 Feb 1862. Separated at unknown date. He then served in Company G, 207th PA Infantry Regiment; enlisted 1 Sep 1864, received non-fatal head wound at Battle of Lundy Lane, Petersburg VA on 2 Apr 1865, recovered and separated 31 May 1865. Son of William Blanchard (1805 – 1860) and Mary Smith (1817 – 1870). Married Helen E. Holiday (1843 – 1942). Parents of: Anna Elizabeth Blanchard (1865 – 1892) and Ada Blanchard (1868 – 1923). Occupation: traveling salesman. Cause of death: tertiary syphilis (general paresis). He was resident of Elmira New York in 1890 veteran census, but became a resident of the Cook County IL Insanity Asylum on 9 Feb 1892 and was transferred to the Northern Illinois Hospital and Asylum for the Insane. He died in Elgin, Kane County IL.
