From F.A.G. Volunteer Morgan (#47502621) on July 17, 2018:

Jan (aka John) was born in 1820 in Bohemia, it was there he met and married his wife Helen Piskova. They had ten children in Mseno before Jan headed to America in 1867. Jan remained in Chicago for a few years working as a shoemaker, like his father, and then moved to Yankton, Dakota Territory and settled on a 160-acre farm. By 1870 the family had migrated from Mseno to America, some staying in Chicago and the younger children moving to South Dakota. Eventually, Jan and Helena gave up on their dream of farming and moved back to Chicago to be near family and friends.

The Bible Photo (Photo at Right):
When Jan came across the prairie he brought with him the family Bohemian Protestant Bible printed in 1613 and it is written in Czechoslovakian. It is only 1 of 55 of these bibles ever produced by Daniel Adam and the only one know to be in America. It can be viewed at the Dakota Territorial Museum in Yankton, South Dakota. The above article references Josef Papik born June 20, 1850, in Mseno u Melnika, in the county of Melni. This does not match Joseph Papik born 1850 from other records including the F.A.G. memorial linked below.

From the USA 1870 Census, John and Helena PAPICK were residing in Dakota Territory, United States with four children

John Papick M 50 Austria
Helena Papick F 47 Austria
Fanny Papick F 12 Austria
George Papick M 10 Austria
Tonice Papick F 8 Austria
Theresies Papick F 6 Austria

Although John and Helena PAPICK in the 1870 Census seem to match John and Helena PAPIK in the 1880 census, questions remain:
+ Son Josef would have been 9 in 1870 vs 19 in 1880 and is not included in 1870 Census

+ Tried searching FamilySearch for John Papik in 1870 with no success. Tried searching FamilySearch for John Papick in 1880 with no success. No indication that both John Papik and John Papick born 1819-1821 exist at FamilySearch.

+ Was not successful at locating additional references to the four children above.
