Edwin Bruce Linney was born in Danville, Kentucky, April 9 1852. He was the eleventh and youngest child of his parents, William Henderson and Jan Ver Bryke Linney.

March 27 1877, Mr. Linney was married to Sarah Belle Perry. Five children were born to them, Maude Perry, now of Tucson, Arizona; Herbert Theodore, who died July 14, 1904, Hartwell Henderson, San Francisco, California; Joseph Edwin, Portland, Oregon; and Annie Gertrude, now Mrs. J.C. Potts, of Flagstaff, Arizona.

The wife and mother died February 20 1892, and miss Nannie Linney then made her home with her brother and shared with him the care of the children.

On the 6 of November 1903, Mr. Linney was married to Miss Hattie Hardesty of Lexington, Kentucky.
He was postmaster of Danville for sixteen years, from 1808 to 1914. For the next seven years he was in business with his brother, T.E. Linney in the Linney Bros. grocery store. In 1920 his health failed and he and his wife went to Arizona, where two of his children lived and later to Fresno, California, where they made their home with Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Perry.

For several years Mr. Linney’s health was better. Part of this time he and Mrs. Linney spent in Los Angeles and Flagstaff, Arizona, with his daughters, and several times they visited his son in San Francisco. During the past fall and winter, Mr. Linney was not so well and after the first of the year failed rapidly, although everything possible for his restoration and comfort was done by his devoted wife.

Several weeks ago the children and grandchildren gathered together at the Perry’s home in Fresno. For a few days the father enjoyed them to the fullest, having quiet talks with each son and daughter and finding much pleasure in the presence of the little ones, who loved to be in Grandfather’s room.

On the afternoon of February 27, after a week of great suffering and weakness, the brave heart ceased to beat and the beautiful spirit went home.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. F.G.H. Stevens, pastor of the Methodist church, of which Mr. Linney had been a member in Danville since young manhood. The body was laid to rest in a beautiful spot in Mountain View cemetery in Fresno. Mr. Linney was a great lover of nature and found much joy in the sunshine, beautiful trees and flowers of California.

Besides his wife and children one sister, Mrs. F.P. Hostetter of Osceola, Missouri survives him.

For the present Mrs. Linney will continue to make Fresno her home.
