Shales Bros. Newphew Kills Self Tuesday
John Shales, Jr. Found in Men's Lounge of Waterloo Theatre
Friends and relatives were shocked Tuesday night when word was received that John Shales, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Shales of Tripoli, had committed suicide in Waterloo.

He was found by an employee of the Paramount theatre in the men's lounge in the basement. He had fired a .32 bullet into his head and apparently died instantly.

Henry Shales, uncle of the young man and P. M. Sorg of this place went to Waterloo immediately. There they learned that he had left his rooming place at the home of Elmer Nus in Cedar Falls, a former Tripoli high school teacher, Tuesday morning to attend Gates business college in Waterloo where he had been taking a business course since September.

When found, a piece of paper was found in his pocket bearing his address. The weapon which he used was an old one.

He graduated from Tripoli high school in 1939 and attended the University of Iowa last year. Sam, Henry and Tom Shales of this place were his uncles and he was a frequent visitor here.
