Arlo Arlen Bueber was born January 6, 1939 at home on the farm in Kaylor, SD, the son of Helmuth and Leontina (Welk) Bueber. He attended country school until eighth grade and then went to high school at Delmont. Following his graduation in 1958, he began farming with his family. On April 18, 1963, Arlo was drafted into the Army. He completed his basic training at Ft. Leonardwood Missouri and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. Since he was fluent in speaking German, he was sent to Germany for two weeks during the Vietnam war as an interpreter. When his time was finished in the military, Arlo returned to Delmont to continue farming.
On March 18, 1972, Arlo married Sharon Meyer at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. Together they farmed for many years until selling the farm in 1988 and moving to Tripp. There they purchased the Lunch Box cafe and Arlo worked at the Tripp Creamery and cheese plant. In 1995, Arlo moved to Miller where he worked for a farmer. Arlo was always a farmer at heart and said his favorite thing was the smell of the soil in springtime. He was also the custodian at the Miller school. On October 19, 2002, Arlo married Lori (Hinckley) Batterman at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. They made their home in Delmont.
Arlo was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder for many years and was a part of the men's choir. He also served as president for the dartball league, too many years to count. He was an active member of the Delmont American Legion for nearly 50 years and a member of the Twin Iron Association.
Arlo enjoyed life and all the sports it had to offer: basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball, football, horse racing, and most recently, golf. He had a favorite team for most sports, but none as great as the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Twins, and the Los Angeles Dodgers all of whom had a special place in his heart. He played baseball himself until he was in his forties. Arlo and Lori enjoyed bowling weekly on a league, dancing, and watching movies. Up until his accident, Arlo was still working full time at the Luxury 5 Cinema in Mitchell as a custodian and he loved sharing movie theater popcorn with friends and family.
Arlo died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Ambassador Healthcare in Lincoln, Nebraska after battling injuries and paralysis he sustained due to a fall August 21, 2014.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents, brother Randy, infant son Randall, former wife Sharon Bueber, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
