Guillermo Mendigorin Afable, age 68, of Norwalk, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Thursday, August 12, with his family at his side. He was the husband of Caridad Mendoza Afable. Born on November 20, 1941 in Subic Zambales, Philippines, Guillermo was the son of the late Luis S. Afable, Sr. and the late Flocerfina Mendigorin Afable. Guillermo worked for the Whole Foods Market in Westport for 7 and a half years in the customer service department and in 2008 was named Best Employee of the Year for the northeast region of the company. He was a graduate of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in The Philippines and was also a professional basketball coach there; a sport he loved to play in younger years and continued as a fan in that and baseball.
In addition to his wife, Guillermo is survived by his three sons and their wives; Gary Louis and Evelyn Sanchez Afable of Norwalk, Gene Louis and Rosemarie Hernandez Afable of The Philippines and George Louis and Imelda Serrano Afable of Nevada, 5 grandchildren, Gino, Gian, Gabrielle, Gillian and Ryan, a brother, 3 sisters and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 16, 10 AM at St. Philip Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Pl., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. Guillermo's family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, on Sunday, August 15, from 4-6 PM.
