Ira Link, 79, of Maxwell, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015, at Crestview Nursing & Rehab in Webster City.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11 at the Maxwell United Methodist Church in Maxwell with Pastor Jerry Swanberg officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the Maxwell Cemetery.

Ira Walter Link was born June 11, 1935, to Walter and Grace (Bittner) Link. Ira served in the United States Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962. On April 27, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Clement at the Farrar United Methodist Church. Ira had worked 30 years for Maytag in Newton, earning several Idea Awards during his employment.

Ira was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist Church, VFW Post #8714 and American Legion Harold Ness Post #249 in Maxwell, and was an active union member and steward of UAW #997 for many years. Ira was a Golden Gloves Champion in 1959, and for many years had a boxing club in Maxwell. He enjoyed bowling with Gary and Kevin, playing softball, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ira loved to be with family; especially watching his children and grandchildren in all their activities.

Ira is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Mary of Maxwell; his children, Gary Link of Mingo, Linda Link of Polk City, Brenda (Butch) Sowers of Nevada and Kevin (Sharon) Link of Bondurant; his brothers, Richard (Linda) Link of Des Moines and David Link of Des Moines; his sisters, Evelyn Link of Arkansas and Kathryn Link of Newton; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Wilda Link.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Iowa Alzheimer’s Association, 1730 28th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50266 in loving memory of Ira.
