Jean Gilberta (Perry) Alderfer, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Frederick Living Continuous Care Community, where she has resided for almost 16 years. She was predeceased in 1996 by her devoted husband of 55 years, Robert Kenneth (Kenny) Alderfer, Sr. They were long-time residents of Skippack, PA. Mrs. Alderfer was born in Philadelphia on July 18, 1920 and graduated from Whitpain High School in 1938. She was the daughter of the late Miles C. and Ida (Stephens) Perry of Center Square, PA. Mrs. Alderfer was a long-time member of Bethel Hill United Methodist Church in Lansdale and in recent years a member of the Butter Valley Community Church in Bally. She was a dedicated homemaker and a valued volunteer in her community. At her church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, hosted international students and served on many committees. She was a crossing guard and served on the Parent Teachers Association for the Creamery Elementary School. She served as a volunteer for F.I.S.H. (Faith in Serving Humanity) and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. She loved gardening, bird-watching, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed (and usually won) a good game of Scrabble. In her "retirement," she enjoyed volunteering in the mail room and in the Adult Day Care Center as well as sharing activities with other residents at Frederick Living. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met. She was well known for remembering and sending greetings for birthdays and special occasions of her extensive family and network of friends. She is survived by her children, Robert Kenneth (Skip) Alderfer Jr. and his wife, Nona, of Limerick; Roberta Altenor and her husband, Aidan of Boyertown; Mark Alderfer and his wife, Rebecca, of Little Rock AR; Deborah Johnson and her husband, William (Bud) of Tucson, AZ, and David Miles (Shorty) Alderfer and his wife Patty of Pottstown; her siblings Robert Perry of Johnsburg, IL and Cynthia Nester of Souderton, PA; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her siblings, Dortha (Dollie) Bitting, Babette (Bobbie) Hogshead, Virginia Shakeshaft, John Perry and Charles (Tom) Perry. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on, March 7, 2015 at Frederick Living, 2849 Big Road, Frederick, PA, where friends may greet the family from 10-11 a.m. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a memorial and burial service at 11 a.m. on Friday July 3, 2015 at Bethel Hill Methodist Church, 2000 Bethel Road, Lansdale PA 19446, where the family will also greet friends from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Frederick Living Benevolence Fund at www.frederickliving.org.
