A fourth-generation San Diegan, David's great-grand-parents arrived in San Diego from England in 1890 where they soon became business and community leaders in establishing family jewelry stores, J. Jessop & Sons as well as numerous philanthropic efforts.

David graduated from Grossmont High and San Diego State University. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity during his college years where he met and married Gail Y. Vetter. Subsequent to achieving his degree from USC College of Optometry, David joined his father, the former Dr. David G. Jessop, Sr. in his optometric practice here in San Diego. He also participated in many local organizations. He was a Past President of the San Diego Optometric Society, the Rotary Club, Ducks Unlimited, 20-30 Club and OMBAC.

Anyone who met David liked him and enjoyed his enthusiastic sense of humor. He was athletic and a sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends along with various sports at Mission Beach.

Two daughters and four grandchildren survive David; Suzanne Sullivan, her husband Jim, their children, Megan, Erin and Patrick; Jill Margaret Lott, her husband Doug and their son Lucas. His sister, Julie Jessop and her husband Foster Marshall also survive David along with Julie's children, Erik and Kate Conklin and many Jessop relatives.

His parents, David and Helen Jessop and his daughter Kimberly Jessop preceded him in death. A private service will be held for the immediate family.

A celebration of life will be held for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in David's memory to Sharp Hospice in San Diego.
