An Extraordinary Lady And Friend to Many Age 102 of St. Paul died May 6, 2006. Verdi Altrude Grace Nelson was born in Sanborn, IA., Feb. 29, 1904. She is preceded in death by husband, Carl Ernest Nelson in 1956 and son, Harry Ernest Nelson in 1994. Survived by sons, Frank, Dennis, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and several who chose Verdie as their adopted Mom and Grandmother. Verdi loved people. Verdi was a longtime member of Fairmont Ave., United Methodist Church. She was a PM of Merriam Park Chapter OES #199 now Rainbow Chapter OES #276 and Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter OES, Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile and Past Supreme Zulieka of the Nile. Past Queen of the Northlands of the Winter Carnival in 1979 and Sr. Citizen of the Year for Ramsey County in 1999.
